Updown Cottage is a C16th cottage, full of character and luxury, perched halfway up Hovis Hill in Shaftesbury and with stunning views across Blackmore Vale.

It sleeps 6 people in 4 bedrooms with 3 bathrooms and caters for all looking for inspiration, whether gastronomic or musical.  The cottage is equipped with Wifi, high quality AV systems, a baby grand piano, logs for the woodburning stove set in the inglenook and an Aga masterchef and all facilities for feasting.

All bedrooms are furnished with antique or bespoke beds fitted with White Company Egyptian cotton bed linen, billowing pillows and duvets, piles of white towels and bathrobes and White Company toiletries.

Guests will find a basket of breakfast goodies from the local deli and Nespresso capsules for the Nespresso machine.  Meals may be ordered ready for your arrival from the deli and caterers can be recommended for special meals during your stay.

There is a vast library of films to keep you entertained or a wealth of cultural, outdoor, tourist and foodie destinations within a short distance of the cottage.  Guests may also like to arrive by light aircraft at Compton Abbas airfield or take advantage of its flying lessons and facilities.

Optional Information

Children are welcome and there is a travel cot but there are plenty of stairs and no stair gates.

Sadly we are unable to cater for smokers or pets but there are local kennels or dog sitters.

Accessibility

Not suitable for guests with mobility problems as the cottage is arranged on the hill over 4 floors.

Travel

The cottage is only 30 seconds walk from bus stops including the National Express stop. Gillingham station is 4 miles away and well served by taxi services.

Special Interest Holidays

Guests may like to take a cookery course or flying lessons or attend local music festivals such as Salisbury or Sherborne.
